Railway Transport in Haryana

Haryana is well connected on the rail network. There are about 96 railway stations in Haryana and the important ones among them are located in Kalka, Sirsa, Sonipat, Rewari, Rohtak, Panipat, Narnaul, Narwana, Palwal, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Jagadhari, Faridabad, Bhiwani and Bawal. At the time of formation of the state, 3245.11 km railway line was present in the state, in which the length of the meter gauge line was 2985.55 km and that of narrow guage was 259.56 km. The oldest railway station of Haryana is Rewari Railway Station. At present, the state has about 4439.16 km of railway track of which meter gauge lines are 4178.31 km and narrow gauge lines are 260.85 km.

  • First Private Sector Rail Project was initiated in the Gurugram district.
  •  Rail Network in Haryana falls under three Railway Zones and five Railway Division.
  • The zones are North Western Railway Zone ( Bikaner and Jaipur Divisions); Northern Railway Zone (Delhi and Ambala division) and North Central Railway Zone Agra division).
  • Ambala division of Indian Railways is the headquarters of Northern Railway Zone. It consists of 1118.53 km of railway line. It also consists of narrow gauge line of 96.54 km.
  • The Delhi division covering 1470.68 km of railway line runs through various parts of Haryana.
  • Ferozpur division has 1849. km railway line and 164.31 km narrow gauge line .
